See.. this is why I'm not voting for president... because no matter what, I'm participating in a divisive, two-party system and endorsing all actions taken in the past by the candidate I vouch for AND his/her party. By voting, I am saying I am against one person in order to favor another - against one set of policies in order to support others. Not only am I not knowledgeable enough (despite actively informing myself) to make the wisest decision, I'm kind of passing the buck to a party delegate who I didn't even initially endorse. Even if I had voted in the primaries, my community did not pick the candidates, one of my two choices for parties did. (BOTH of which have their own agendas and politics that do not support ANY kind of policy that makes an overall difference. Just a difference for their targeted demographic.) The change that I want to happen in my community doesn't come from voting, it comes from action and the politics that I actually contribute to. It comes from a personal response and an idea of hospitality that functions DESPITE the governing body (especially a federal one...) I think voting isn't a contribution... it's really just an opinion. But I'd loooove to hear other thoughts. (And it doesnt make those ads any less hilarious.)
I lived in rural Cambodia from January to May of 2008. The time there and journey of return resonates deeply with me. Srok Khmer is a phrase that means the love and affection one has for the country of Cambodia. If you want to, you can search the archives and read back on my experiences.
