I have a second/final interview with the president of this new restaurant:Bottega Louie, a new Italian restaurant and gourmet market is opening in downtown Los Angeles (7th & Grand).
I heard about it through a very vague Craiglist posting. No name, just a brief on the type of people they were looking for and an address to apply in person. Since I knew I was going to be in the area anyways, I went down last week. See, I thought that "apply in person" meant fill out an application and wait to hear back. No. It meant a full on interview with two of the managers! The initial interview was just to get to know me. So all I had to do was talk about myself - easy. But because I didn't even bother to think about researching ahead of time, I knew nothing about the restaurant. I didn't even ask what the name of it was!
Only when one of the managers called me today and said, "This is so and so from Bottega Louie..." Now I know the name of the restaurant maybe I will eventually learn the names of these people. Not there yet.
Nonetheless, they called and want me back. I have applied for the position of "greeter" which is like hostess. Only they liked to use the words "ambassador of the restaurant" and being the first face a customer sees when they come in. Anyways, just wanted to post this tidbit of good news and ask all of you to send positive thoughts into the world for me.
This restaurant has cost $3.2 million dollars, and it's still not done yet! They are hoping to open by beginning of March. I really hope I get this job because the people who interviewed me were lovely and this establishment seems a lot more grounded than the last few places I worked. (Ahem, family-owned coffee shop, ahem, religious non-profit.) I really want to work in downtown and want to work for a place that I know I can keep accountable. And I don't want a desk job. This one is all about talking to people, working with my hands, being hospitable - I can do that!
Now I just need to figure out what I am going to wear! Something sleek but not too rigid. Comfortable but expresses my personality. Ah, can't wait!
